ARTIST STATEMENT

As a multimedia artist, to participate in the process of art making, from concept to completion, fills me with delight. How lucky to be a small part of the mystery of creativity!

So that an idea may be manifested as art, I first discern the language needed for the work to speak. Each particular language, with its own syntax and vocabulary, can partially be found in the particular media, be it painting, drawing, or mixed media, selected to make the artwork. Initially I just listen to the spark that is asking to be made visible; I then reply by actively engaging in the physical process of creation. Often I work in a series so as to more deeply explore ideas and potential.

The work itself reveals what it needs in order to be resolved. I am sustained and inspired by the duality of uncertainty and ambition. The completed work is offered as an invitation to the viewer to bring personal perspectives as a means to engage in dialogue, which through of the work I have given them the opening line.
